Things to do in Adelaide

Welcome to Adelaide! It’s a pretty big place, so you might find yourself overwhelmed with wondering where to go first? Well, here’s a handy guide to some of the most popular places in South Australia!

First up, I have to talk about the wines. Now, I mentioned this in a previous article, but it does bear repeating, Adelaide is considered, alongside Bordeaux and Verona, as a Great Wine Capital of the world! There are tonnes of Vineyards to visit, but if you want the best of the best, I suggest going to the National Wine Centre (NWC) where you will learn about the industry, as well as get to taste some authentic Aussie wines. Though I would suggest also having some transportation (or a designated driver) to drive you back afterwards! And you’ll definitely want to have a taste of these wines, there’s up to 120 of them!

Where is it located? Well here’s the best part – The NWC is in the heart of the Adelaide Botanical Gardens, which is the next place I was going to suggest you visit. These Gardens are something special, containing endangered rainforest plants, and wild flowers that you would usually only find in the jungle! Inside the Botanical Gardens, you can visit the Palm House – one of the last remaining buildings of its kind, that was originally built in 1877!

If you’re more into ships, and aren’t scared of the dark, then I’d suggest also visiting one of South Australia’s MANY ship graveyards. You’re spoilt for choice – there’s 19 of them, with the largest amount located in Adelaide itself.

Not content with being a wine capital, Adelaide also became known as one of the best places anywhere, to buy opals! There’s a shop called Unique Opal Mine, which is the largest manufacturer and Opal Cutter in Adelaide, so if you’re wanting to buy a present for that special someone (or a souvenir to remember your time in Adelaide.

The final place I recommend you visit (unless you’re diabetic) is the Haigh’s Chocolate Factory – It can definitely give Cadbury’s a run for their money!

Enjoy Adelaide, and I hope this article helped you find your way around!
