Public Transport in Adelaide

Welcome to Adelaide, the Capital City of South Australia, as well as one of its states (think New York, New York). In this article, I’ll be discussing their Public Transport System, so you know how to use it, as well as take full advantage.

If you’re planning on staying in the CBD, you’ve pretty much hit the jackpot! Why? Because you don’t have to pay a cent to use their special City Connector Bus. This bus operates either 5 or 7 days a week, depending on which route you want to take. This FREE city connector bus will take you to all the most popular attractions all around the CBD, so you can shop, eat, go to university, amongst other places. If you’re reliant on a wheel chair, or are carrying a pram, you don’t have to worry either, all our buses are pram and wheel chair accessible.

Now, I mentioned before that there are two routes. Here I’ve attached the links, so you can make a decision yourself, where you want to get off or on. First up is route 99A, followed by 99C. Please note these only loop around the CBD, and they work Monday-Friday. No free weekend rides. That’s ok though, because there are some more routes, that not only work every day, but explore more of Adelaide as well. That’s route 98A and 98C. They actually go around North Adelaide, not just the CBD and, like the others, are absolutely free to ride.

Lastly, on the free side, there’s a Free Tram Travel Zone. That takes you between the South Terrace, Festival Plaza, Botanical Garden, and the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. So if you want to explore Adelaide but are on a budget, the free Bus and Tram are your best choices. Here’s a map of the stops I just mentioned.

If you need to explore other areas of Adelaide, you will need a Metro Pass. They’re kind of like the Mykis in Melbourme so feel free to click the link to check out how to use them. There’s also an option to download the Metro Tap and Pay App on your iPhone or Android, but only some buses, trains and trams accept that option.

Oh, before I go, here’s a quick lifehack! Go to this link and you’ll be able to get an Adelaide Metro Visitor Pass, which includes unlimited travel for three days. Note, these are consecutive days, so when you use it the first time, the 72 hour clock will begin. It should still be plenty of time for you to familiarise yourself with the area though, and with how to use the Metro Pass itself. Enjoy your stay!
