Places to go in Brisbane

Welcome to the Sunshine State! If you don’t know how to get around, then click here for that instructional article. Now that you’re familiar with the public transport, it’s time to figure out where you want to go. Luckily you’ve got me here, and I’ve compiled a list of the top 5 places people like to visit in Brisbane. Buckle up, I’ll try not to make the ride too bumpy!

In Melbourne, there’s Phillip Island, where you get to watch the penguins. Brisbane liked that idea, but put its own spin on things – Moreton Island. Instead of watching Penguins though, you get to watch DOLPHINS! I know where I’m going next time I’m in Brisbane! And seeing as you have the Go Card, you can just take the bus/train to Pinkenba, and get on the ferry at the Holt Street Wharf. Travel time each way is about 80 minutes, depending on the weather, and the experience sounds unreal!

Next up, the Wheel of Brisbane. Brisbane’s answer to the London Eye, if you don’t like going into tall buildings, then this is your best way to get a breathtaking view of Brisbane. The wheel is 60 metres tall, and there’s 41 Gondolas (two of them have wheelchair access). There’s also a special VIP Package that includes a double ride, which can be booked at https://thewheelofbrisbane.com.au/vip-package/ Finally, when full, it can hold up to 332 people! This is definitely a must see attraction.

If you enjoy your plants and flowers, you’ll find yourself with plenty at the City Botanic Gardens. This is located right at the centra of Brisbane and is home to over 8,500 plants (some of which are impossible to find elsewhere). While in the garden, be sure to visit themed gardens, such as a tropical rainforest, cactus garden or a bamboo grove. It’s one way to travel the world, while staying in Brisbane!

No trip to Brisbane would be complete without going up to the Story Bridge! This was built back in 1940 and, fun fact, it’s the FIRST steel bridge ever built in Queensland. History buffs will definitely enjoy going there. The views of the city from the bridge are breathtaking as well so, if you’re claustrophobic, and can’t go on the Wheel of Brisbane, this is the next best thing!

Finally, if you just want to shop till you drop, make sure to visit the Queen Street Mall. Home to over 700 shops, if you can’t find what you want, then it most likely doesn’t even exist! And if you feel peckish after all that shopping, there are plenty of restaurants as well! That’s it for this article, enjoy your time in Brisbane.
